Some of this may land.
- You left, and you are still assembling evidence that you were allowed to.
- You apologize reflexively, including to furniture.
- Other people thought the relationship was fine, which has made it harder to explain.
- You do not fully trust your own read on a situation any more.
- You catch yourself defending them, still.
- You are functioning. You are also braced, constantly, for something.
The Work
What the Work Looks Like
Getting your reality back
The central injury is usually not an event, it is years of being told your perception was wrong. We rebuild that first, because nothing else holds without it.
The guilt, examined
Guilt after this kind of relationship is almost never a signal that you did something wrong. We work out what it actually is.
Why leaving did not end it
Your nervous system kept the settings. EMDR is often the right tool here, and I will explain exactly what that involves before we go near it.
What you want now
Eventually the work stops being about them. That shift is the point.
What Changes
What Changes
The most common thing people report is quieter than they expected: they stop running every interaction through a second, anxious interpretation. Decisions get faster. Their own opinion starts arriving first again.
That, and being able to describe what happened without needing anyone to validate it.
