What does therapy cost?

Individual therapy and EMDR are $225 per 50-minute session. EMDR intensives are $2,300, which covers one 60-minute intake plus three 3-hour sessions.

The first step is a free 10-minute consultation, so you are not paying to find out whether we are a fit.

Do you take insurance?

I am out of network, which means I do not bill insurance directly. I can provide a superbill, a receipt with the codes your insurer needs, and you submit it for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Whether you get reimbursed and how much is between you and your plan. Call the number on your card and ask about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, your deductible, and your reimbursement rate.

Will I get a Good Faith Estimate?

Yes. Under the No Surprises Act, clients who are not using insurance are entitled to a written estimate of expected costs. I provide one, and you can ask for it at any point.

Sessions

Sessions

How long is a session?

Standard sessions are 50 minutes. EMDR intensive sessions are 90 minutes, because reprocessing work benefits from room to open and close properly.

What is a first session actually like?

Mostly a conversation. I want the history, what brought you now rather than last year, and what you would want to be different. You are also assessing me, which is appropriate.

We do not dive into the worst thing in session one. Nothing gets excavated before there is somewhere to put it.

How often do people come?

I meet with clients weekly. Consistency does a lot of the work early on. Some people move to every other week later, and that is a decision we make together.

How long do people stay in therapy?

It varies more than anyone selling a program will admit. Focused single-issue work can be relatively short. Complex trauma and long-standing relational patterns take longer.

I will not quote you a session count in advance, and I would be suspicious of anyone who does. What I will do is review progress with you out loud, so you are never drifting.

The Work Itself

The Work Itself

How does EMDR work?

You hold a specific memory in mind while doing a simple repeated task, usually eye movements, tapping or alternating sounds. That combination appears to help the brain file the memory as something that happened rather than something happening now.

You stay awake and in control throughout. It is not hypnosis, you can stop at any point, and you do not have to narrate the whole event in detail for it to do something.

Does EMDR work over video?

Yes. I deliver EMDR by secure video using on-screen visual or auditory bilateral stimulation, to clients located anywhere in California.

What do you specialize in?

ADHD in women, narcissistic abuse recovery, complex trauma, self-worth, and attachment and relationship patterns. EMDR runs through a lot of it.

Who is this not for?

I do not treat severe mental illness or psychotic disorders. If a higher level of care would serve you better, I will say so at consult and help point you somewhere useful.

I am also not a crisis service. In an emergency, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Where are you and who can you see?

The office is at 65 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA 91103. I am licensed in California only, so I can work with you in person in Pasadena or by secure video anywhere in California.

What if I need to cancel?

Let me know as early as you reasonably can. Late canceled sessions are chargeable, and the specifics are covered in your intake paperwork before anything is ever billed.

How do I start?

Send a message through the contact page and we will set up the free 10-minute call. No paperwork and no obligation to book anything afterward.
