Sessions happen in Pasadena or on secure video. In a city this small, some people specifically want the room to be elsewhere, and some want no room at all. Video from a car in a parking structure counts, and I have done plenty of good work that way.

When the other person coaches the team, runs the board, or is simply charming at every gathering, the version of events people accept is theirs. You end up managing your own reputation while trying to recover, which is an absurd amount of work.
In session you do not have to manage anything. You do not have to be fair to them for the first few months. Balance can come later, if you want it.

Recovery starts with reconstruction. What happened, told plainly, without the reflex to add context that lets them off. Then the physical residue, because a body that spent years scanning for mood changes does not stand down on request. EMDR is often how we reach the specific incidents that keep looping.
I do not diagnose anyone you were involved with, and I do not need a label to work with what it did to you.

$225 per 50 minutes, superbills available for out-of-network reimbursement. Alexa Aversano, LMFT, license CA 140766. Adults and teens, California only. Severe mental illness and psychotic disorders are outside my scope.
