People come in able to argue both sides of their own experience, which is exactly the injury. Years of having your memory corrected, your tone criticized and your concerns reframed as overreaction will do that. It is not a sign you are unreliable. It is a sign the correction worked.
So early sessions can feel unusual, because I am not going to help you find their perspective. You have been doing that for years without assistance.

- Nervous system work, because vigilance does not respond to logic.
- EMDR on the incidents that keep replaying unbidden.
- Rebuilding your own preferences, which is harder and more interesting than it sounds.
Living With It Nearby
When the person is still in your life.
Sometimes it is a parent a few streets over, or a co-parent you will see for another decade. No contact is not always on the table, and advice that assumes it is tends to be useless. We work on what is actually available: what you disclose, what you do not, how you recover after contact, and what you stop trying to prove.
I will not decide any of that for you. I will help you notice when a choice is yours rather than an old reflex.

$225 per 50 minutes, superbills available for out-of-network claims, and no sliding scale is published. Alexa Aversano, LMFT, license CA 140766. Adults and teens, California only. I do not treat severe mental illness or psychotic disorders.
