Relationship work sometimes needs a room that is not your house, particularly if the person you are describing lives in it. My office is in Pasadena, a few minutes from South Pasadena, and video is available statewide for the weeks when leaving is not realistic.
Whichever you pick, sessions are individual. I work with one person on their own patterns.
The Repeating Part
The same ending, arrived at by different roads.
Relationship trauma is less about one catastrophic partner and more about what closeness came to mean. If love once required vigilance, vigilance comes along to every relationship afterward, including good ones. You test, or withdraw, or accept far less than you would advise a friend to accept.
None of that is a character flaw. It is an old solution running in a context it was not built for.
What We Look At
Specifics, not theories about love.
- The moment things turn, in real conversations, replayed slowly.
- What you were doing in the two minutes before that moment.
- Where that move was learned, usually earlier than the relationship in question.
- What a different response would cost, honestly, including the part where it feels awful at first.
Long Histories
People here often stay a long time, which changes the work.
A lot of South Pasadena clients are inside long marriages, long friendships, and family ties within a few blocks. Ending things is not the obvious lever, and I am not going to pretend it is. The work becomes about what you do inside a relationship you intend to keep, which is slower and considerably more interesting.
Sometimes people do leave. I have no agenda in either direction and I will not tell you which way to go.
