There is no office in South Pasadena.
My only office is in Pasadena, and I would rather say that plainly than let a map pin imply otherwise. From most of South Pasadena it is a genuinely short trip north, which is why a fair number of people here do EMDR in the room rather than on a screen.
Video is the other option and it is not the lesser one. EMDR over video uses the same protocol, and I have run full reprocessing sequences with people sitting in their own living rooms.
Why It Suits People Here
Short sessions, tight schedules, no wasted evening.
South Pasadena runs on a school calendar and a small-town rhythm. Parents book around pickup. High schoolers come after practice. Nobody here has a spare ninety minutes of freeway time to donate to a fifty-minute appointment, and EMDR in particular benefits from consistency, which collapses the moment attendance becomes heroic.
That is the practical case for keeping care local. The clinical case is simply that the work goes better when you arrive with something left in the tank.
Before We Reprocess Anything
Preparation is most of it.
- History and targets, so we know what we are aiming at and in what order.
- Resourcing, meaning tools you can actually use on a Tuesday, not just in session.
- A shared signal to slow down or stop, used freely and without discussion.
- Closure at the end of every session, so nothing is left hanging open.
Teens and EMDR
Younger clients often take to it faster.
Teenagers frequently prefer EMDR to talking, because it asks for less narration. A fifteen-year-old who will not describe what happened will often do the protocol and report a color, a sensation, or a single word, and that is enough to work with.
I see adults and teens, and I am LGBTQ+ affirming. Whether EMDR is appropriate depends on the person, and we decide that together rather than by default.
